About Us
The Penobscot Regional Communications Center (PRCC) stands as one of Maine's 25 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), playing a pivotal role in our state's emergency response system. As Maine's busiest PSAP, PRCC handles a staggering number of over 72,000 9-1-1 calls annually, a testament to its unwavering commitment to public safety. PRCC's services extend to providing Enhanced 9-1-1 call processing and dispatches for 65 agencies in Penobscot, Hancock, and Aroostook Counties, ensuring swift and effective response to emergencies.

In a testament to the collaborative spirit of our region, in 1997, Penobscot County dispatching services transitioned from the Sheriff's Office to a stand-alone department under the direction of the County Administration and the Penobscot County Commissioners. PRCC's governance structure further reflects this collaborative approach, with a Board of Directors overseeing dispatch operations and functions. This Board of Directors is a unique blend of expertise, comprising five Police Chiefs voted on by the Region 5 Police Chiefs group and five Fire Chiefs voted on by the Penobscot County Fire Chiefs Association, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive approach to public safety.
